Rebuilding
in an Uneven System.

Why We Exist

Democracy is not completed by casting a ballot once every few years.
It is a continuous public practice that depends on citizens remaining informed, engaged, and willing to hold public power accountable.

Paying attention to how political institutions operate, questioning how authority is exercised, and demanding accountability are not signs of over-politicization. They are fundamental expressions of civic responsibility.

A healthy democratic society is not one without disagreement, but one in which public power does not drift beyond public oversight.

Civic Education

Civic education is the teaching and learning of knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed for individuals to participate responsibly and effectively in society, government, and community life.

Public Participation

Public participation (sometimes called citizen participation) is the process through which individuals and communities take part in decision-making processes that affect their society.

Accountability

Accountability is the principle that individuals, institutions, and authorities are responsible for their actions, decisions, and use of power, and must be able to explain, justify, and face consequences .

Community Driven

WeVote is a community-based organization dedicated to civic education, public participation, and accountability. We work with residents across Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, New Westminster , White Rock, and Port Alberni to amplify local voices, encourage informed engagement, and strengthen connections between communities and decision-makers.

WeVote is not a political party, advocacy campaign, or protest organization.

WeVote functions as a civic infrastructure provider.

Our role is to support citizens who wish to participate responsibly in public decision-making by reducing the structural, informational, and organizational barriers they face.

This includes:

  • Providing shared organizational tools
  • Offering guidance on civic processes
  • Supporting coordination and communication
  • Helping communities navigate complex institutional procedures

WeVote does not speak on behalf of citizens.

We help citizens speak for themselves — more effectively, sustainably, and responsibly.

By strengthening civic infrastructure, WeVote enables participation that is informed, lawful, and compatible with everyday life.
