Outcomes and Significance
On March 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM, a large group of residents gathered outside New Westminster City Hall to protest several controversial housing projects, which they referred to as “drug house” developments.
The protest was directed at proposed supportive housing sites located at 502 Columbia Street, 502 20th Street, and 602 Agnes Street. Demonstrators expressed concerns that these projects could negatively impact community safety, neighborhood conditions, and overall quality of life.

Residents from various parts of the community attended the rally, voicing their opinions through speeches and public demonstration. Many called on the city to reconsider the project locations, improve transparency, and implement stronger oversight regarding how these developments are managed.
The protest highlights the ongoing tension across Metro Vancouver between advancing supportive housing initiatives and addressing concerns raised by local communities.
